This is how you know the Christmas Season is on! Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer airs tonight and most likely again on CBS and I am pretty sure i saw it on the Free form lineup as well. But even though you have seen this holiday classic 478 times, you may not know these fun facts about one of the most beloved shows of all time.
Like, did you know that Rudolph is the longest running holiday program? This bad boy has been airing since 1964 making it the longest running holiday classic of all time
Here’s another. The puppet Rudolph only stood 4 inches tall. And after the making of this fantastic Christmas special, Rudolph and the Santa puppet went missing! They were rediscovered in 2006 when some money grubbing old bitty showed up on Antiques Roadshow with them with the claim they were in the attic of some gal that worked on the production and had them in storage and would let her kids play with them from time to time…
And did you know this? Most of the voice actors were from Canada and that the voices of Hermie and Rudolph were neighbors eh?
Remember the Island Of Misfit Toys? Well guess what? In the original production Rudolph and Hermie did not return to get them and it angered the viewing audience. Letters came pouring in so the ending was re made to include the misfits being picked up and delivered to children who would play with them. So i gotta be honest here, i would have been kind of miffed as a child to receive a boat that sinks or a train with square wheels. And is it just me or did you notice at the end the elf dropping the toys did not give an umbrella to the bird that didn’t know how to fly? Yea……
Finally, This one hour holiday classic took 18 months to make and it was done in Japan. Who knew??
Anyway, enjoy Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer and astound and amaze your family and friends with these fun facts about one of the best holiday traditions around!
